Horses have been Susanna ("Sus") Kellogg's companions and teachers for over thirty-five years. She was raised with horses in a family of horsewomen, and began riding when she was six. Her early experience with horses included more than thirty thousand miles of open country and wilderness riding, serving extensively on the mounted staff of the Woodbrook Hunt, competing in regular cross country jumping events, and playing polo. During this time, she became known for her natural abilities and consious approach with horses.

Her continued and intensive learning with horses focused on nurturing the potential between horses and humans through deepeing her understanding of horses' nature. In 1999 she founded Free Horse Farm and Essential Horsemanship.

Her approach with horses has been greatly influenced and expanded by her lifelong study and practice of yoga (certified instructor) and ecology (B.A., UC Santa Cruz). She has devoted herself to working with horses in a way that honors their true nature and dignity.

Her teachers have included hundreds of horses, as well as people, including John Lyons, Pat Parelli, Angela Farmer and Victor Van Kooten. She sees true horsemanship as an art, and the natural foundation of all relations with horses and equestrian disciplines.
